Please note: All special awards donors retain the right to judge any project
they deem acceptable to their criteria. Selection to be a candidate does not
automatically generate an interview on the day of Congress. Project title and
abstracts will help determine candidates.
The American Society for Metals (ASM) INTERNATIONAL is a society whose mission
is to gather, process and disseminate technical
information. ASM fosters the understanding and application of engineered materials and their research, design reliable
manufacture, use and economic and social benefits. This is accomplished via a
unique global-information-sharing network of interaction among members in
forums and meetings, education programs, and through publications and
electronic mail. ASM International emphasizes metals including heat treatment,
processing, corrosion and thermal protective coatings f metallic materials for
engines, industrial applications, etc. It is no longer necessary to apply for
this award as ASM judges will select and evaluate all their own projects.
ROBERT NELSON SCHOLARSHIP AWARD is provided by Dr. Patricia Ford and administered by the LISC Committee. This award is for a 12th and/or 11th grade student(s) in the Senior division, and a 9th grade student in the Junior division, who prepare(d) a superior individual project and was not part of any university, hospital, or research unit group, nor was involved in any way in any university, hospital, or research unit protocol. The award is a U. S. Savings Bond valued up to $500. Nomination for this award must come from the participant's liaison teacher on a special LISC nomination form provided in the Application packet. Nominations are limited to one per school per division.
